The Department of Anesthesiology's pain medicine program is an ACGME-accredited 12-month fellowship in the advanced multidisciplinary management of acute, chronic and cancer pain syndromes.
Over the course of the fellowship, the fellow will develop and hone advanced skills in the evaluation, treatment and consultation for pain disorders; provision of expert pain management in malignant pain and the palliative care setting; utilization of a multimodal approach; demonstration of optimal communication skills and professionalism in a multidisciplinary clinical setting; and utilization of an evidence-based approach in quality improvement, teaching, and scientific study.
Rotations
Pain medicine fellows complete the following training experiences during the fellowship year:
- Chronic/interventional pain
- Acute pain
- Neurology
- Neuroradiology
- Physical medicine and rehabilitation
- Palliative care/hospice
- Psychiatry
- Acupuncture
- Anesthesiology (for non-anesthesiology trained fellows)
- Outpatient continuity clinic
By completing six months of training in chronic/interventional pain and attending a weekly outpatient continuity clinic, the fellow develops advanced skills in interventional procedures and techniques and long-term management of patients with chronic and cancer pain.
